Early Career Theatre Facilitator & Director

​Atlas Theatre Company CIC is offering an exciting opportunity for an early-career Theatre Facilitator and Director. This Freelance Trainee role is designed for individuals at the beginning of their professional journey who are keen to gain practical experience working with and directing children within a supportive, creative environment.

Over the span of the training period, the successful candidate will complete 1 hour per week of practical training at one of our Atlas Drama Clubs in the Sunderland area. This will be working with children aged 6–11 years. This is a developmental position focused on learning, confidence-building, and professional growth.

After successful completion of the training period, there will be paid opportunities to cover additional sessions and potential to join our team of Atlas facilitators on a freelance basis, delivering drama sessions in local primary schools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shadow and support an experienced Atlas Theatre Facilitator during drama club sessions

  • Assist with creative activities, games, and performance-based exercises as well as planning sessions

  • Support the engagement, and creativity of children aged 6–11

  • Gradually build confidence to lead elements of sessions as training progresses

  • Support the direction of the school production ‘Willows on the Wear.’ (Dates below).

Requirements

  • Candidates must be 18 years of age or over and eligible to work in the UK.

  • Hold a qualification in a relevant subject area (college or degree level) or relevant experience.

  • Be comfortable working with children

  • Willingness to learn, observe, and develop facilitation and directing skills

  • Ability to travel to and from schools within the Sunderland area.

  • An up-to-date Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to undertake one

  • Willingness to complete training in areas such as Safeguarding, First Aid etc. if necessary.

Availability & Dates

• Must be available Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00pm – 4:30pm, during term time.

​

Position start date: 5th March 2026
Position end date: 16th July 2026
Must be fully available between 6th July – 10th July 2026 for our schools show week.

Fees & Expenses

• £16 per hour for training period.
• £400 total for show week (25 hours during the week commencing 6th July)

Engagement in this role, will be on a self-employed, independent, contractor basis.
